Updates from Chile

United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism, a member of the Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief, has asked that we share the following message from the Jewish community leadership of Chile

1. The Community Committee for the National Emergency has been formed and has met to coordinate relief activities for the Jewish Community of Chile.

2. While greatly appreciative of the many offers for volunteer assistance, the Community Committee does not recommend sending volunteers to Chile at this time.

3. A medical team from Israel has been dispatched at the request of the committee and will be arriving shortly.

4. The Community Committee is most grateful for the assistance to date and has received notice that the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and the Jewish Coalition for Chile Relief, as well as others, have begun to raise funds to assist the victims of this disaster.

There are six Conservative/Masorti Olami congregations in Chile: one in Concepcion, four in Santiago and one in Valparaiso. Masorti Olami focuses on existing and developing communities in Europe, Latin America, the Former Soviet Union, Africa, Asia and Australia.

As with donations to help the victim's of Haiti's earthquake, where you give is not as important as that you give. Click here to make a donation to the Masotri Olami Chile Earthquake Relief Fund.
