Action on Darfur at Har Shalom

DarfurToday@harshalom.org

Sunday, June 15, 1 - 2 pm - Join us as we demonstrate our support for the Darfur refuges and against the Government of Sudan at a protest at the Chinese Embassy. China is one of the Sudan government's supporters. For more information on this and other actions being taken on behalf of the people of Darfur, please email DarfurToday@harshalom.org

Every third Sunday of the month, from 12 to 1 p.m., rain or shine, Har Shalom members stand at the Embassy of China to bear witness and work to stop the genocide in Darfur.

In the six months since the Save Darfur Coalition launched Divest for Darfur, we've seen how effective our voices can be:
Help ratchet up the pressure - and continue this trend toward divestment.

Let’s sit down together and stand up for Darfur! This is a joint project of the Tikkun Olam Committee and Sisterhood Social Action Committee.

What is happening in Darfur, and why should we care?

What is happening? Genocide.
Why should we, at Har Shalom, care? After all, it’s happening far away and to a people not our people.
In the early 1940s, when it was “only” thousands of Jews who were being murdered in Europe, most in this country felt exactly that same way, and so did nothing. Soon, it would become millions of our relatives who would lose their lives. Knowing this, we cannot stand by and watch as genocide happens anywhere in the world.
What are we being asked to do?
Bear witness at the Sudan Embassy with other Har Shalom members, on the fourth Sunday of each month, from 10 to 11 a.m. If you can’t come, make a donation to the Tikkun Olam Committee, earmarked Darfur. Call or send letters to President Bush, and to Senators Cardin and Mikulski. Send letters to newspapers asking for more coverage of the Darfur story.
Spread the word and ask your friends and relatives to act to help those in Darfur. As our rabbis have said, if you save one life, you save the world. Here is a way to save at least one life. It’s time to act - now. For more information, please contact Har Shalom Darfur Coordinator Yvonne Paretzky at DarfurToday@harshalom.org It’s time to act. Please do what you can.
