Jewish Meditation with Rabbi Weinstein: Feb 27, Mar 27, Apr 24, May 29, 10-11 am
Do you ever sit at services and struggle to focus on the prayers that are being chanted? When you pray, do you sometimes wonder why it is so difficult to feel connected to a greater power? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then you are not alone. These are issues with which Jews have grappled for generations.
In order to deal with such challenges, great Jewish thinkers from Moses & Maimonides to Rabbi Nachman, of Bratslov, all endorsed Jewish meditation. Jewish meditation is an ancient practice that helps us open our hearts to the Divine, and enables us to focus on, and connect more deeply with, our prayers. Jewish meditation also provides us with the tools to feel more focused, balanced, and relaxed during the times we are not at synagogue or in services.
Together, we will learn Jewish chants and visualization techniques. We will also learn how our breathing and posture can help focus and relax us, to have a more powerful experience while praying. We will meet in the Allegra Sofair Chapel, and finish in time to return for the sermon in the Burke Sanctuary. All ages are welcome. Please wear comfortable clothes.
- 12:45 pm, Torah Discussion Group led by Fred Steinberg in the Gordon Sanctuary. No Hebrew required. Open to all.
