Thank you for your interest in Congregation Har Shalom. We welcome this opportunity to introduce you to the Har Shalom family, and hope that you will join and grow with us.
Since its beginnings more than 40 years ago, Har Shalom has been a vibrant center of Jewish life and culture… a warm, friendly, hamish place.
Membership in Har Shalom provides:
- A place for worship during the year, including High Holy Day tickets
- Our clergy’s assistance in celebrating life cycle events
- The right to vote at our annual meeting
- The opportunity to be part of our lay leadership. New members and new faces are encouraged to bring their ideas and energy. If you want to do something new, we have a place for you here.
- The opportunity to be a minyan leader, Torah reader, shofar blower, sermon giver, and so on. We have a long tradition of lay leadership at our services, and offer a variety classes to help you learn how to do it.
- Notice of yahrzeits. Service leaders during Shiva (if ever needed)
- Youth Group programming from Kindergarten up, including our award-winning USY and Kadima programs
- Personal counseling by our rabbis as well as hospital visits
- Our monthly newsletter, the Tablet, and list serve messages to keep you informed
- The opportunity to borrow books, videos, and music from the Har Shalom Library and special children’s library programming
- Adult Ed classes, World Jewry programs, our Membership Outreach events, such as Parents Nights Out and Shabbat dinners, our active social action committees, and much more.
- The opportunity to form close friendships, with "down to earth" people and supportive clergy, and to become part of a caring, giving, supportive Jewish community.
Please join us for a Friday evening or Saturday morning Shabbat service, or at one of our other programs. You’ll have the opportunity to get to know us better and we’ll be able to get to know you. Please check the Upcoming Events listings or the Calendar for details. If you would like to meet with our clergy, please don’t hesitate to call. Appointments with Rabbi Rose or Rabbi Weinstein can be made by calling 301-299-7087, Ext. 1. We look forward to meeting you.
Please know that we are interested in you, and you may feel free to contact any of the people listed on our website, or just call me, the New Member Committee Chairperson. Once again, thank you for your interest in Har Shalom. We would be delighted to welcome you into our family so that you too may experience the spirit – the ruach - that makes Har Shalom shine.
L’Shalom,
