The Men’s Club, an integral part of the Har Shalom community, is dedicated to involving men in Jewish life through social, educational, religious and civic activities. We are affiliated with the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs, a group of over 270 clubs with over 25,000 members in Conservative/Masorti synagogues around the world. As a part of Har Shalom, we work closely with all elements of the synagogue, collaborating on many projects and activities. There are many reasons to join Men’s Club. Besides the good times and lasting friendships, club members can become involved in every aspect of Jewish life and serve both our synagogue and the community, whether they are in the younger crowd, middle age or are a senior. There are many ways to get involved in Men’s Club activities. Simply come to a monthly Board meeting, typically on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 8 PM, or participate in one of our events or programs.

Rabbi Zuckerman presented a fascinating lecture "What is God's Role in Suffering and How Do I Explain It to my Kids?" on May 16. He offered an excellent list of references for parents and adults. We are providing these here for your use.

The goal in Membership is to better respond to our member’s needs while allowing us all to enjoy one another and grow as an organization. Membership programs include our monthly Sunday Speaker’s Program, which comes with a delicious brunch at no cost to attendees. Other activities include assembling Har Shalom’s Sukkah, and lectures sponsored in conjunction with other groups in the synagogue. We are increasing our focus on younger men through programs such as the successful BOYZ Club and through father/child events. This fall we had a father, grandfather and child outing to the Botanical Conservatory on the National Mall. Our upcoming World Wide Wrap and Men’s Club Shabbat will involve members and their children and grandchildren.

Our goals in Communication are to improve two-way communication with the Har Shalom community. Our monthly email, The Men’s Club Message, has been added to provide information about what is happening in the Men’s Club directly to our members.

Efforts in the area of Youth, Tzedakah and Tikun Olam allow us all to “give back” through hands-on projects that personally involve us and through projects that help the synagogue where it is most needed. This spring, Men’s Club members and their teenage children will help paint and repair a needed charitable facility as a part of the D.C. JCC’s Behrend Builders Program. The program will provide the materials, tools and guidance; we’ll provide the energy and ruah to give back and help the community. This year the Men’s Club is committed to providing over $10,000 to the synagogue, as part of our Tzdekah program. These funds will help support a Youth Leader for the year 5769, refurbishment of the ECEC and the addition of automated restroom doors for the handicapped.

Please see the Upcoming Events page on this Men’s Club webpage to learn more about our activities. Our motto is Jewish Guys; Doin’ Good, Havin’ Fun! Our doors are always open and we welcome you to join and support the Men’s Club. You’ll be glad you did. Please contact us by phone at (301) 299-7078 or email us at MensClub@harshalom.org.
