Jack Markowitz, past President of the Har Shalom Men’s Club, has been selected by its Board of Directors as the 2017 Har Shalom recipient of the “Blue Yarmulke Man-of-the-Year Award” (BYMOY). This prestigious award will be presented to honorees from the twenty-two Men’s Clubs in the Seaboard Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs. The presentation will take place at the Region’s BlueCademy Gala at 5:30 pm, Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Congregation Har Shalom.

Jack, his wife Laverne and their two children joined Congregation Har Shalom in 1970. In the ensuing 47 years, he served in numerous leadership roles in the Congregation, including President of the Men’s Club. He is currently serving as the Men’s Club Vice President for Programs, where he has arranged wonderful guest speakers for the Men’s Club’s monthly Sunday Brunch.

Jack is Chairman of the Har Shalom Ways and Means Committee. Some of his recent successes included a House Tour and an Israeli Art Exhibition. He reinvigorated the Sharing Your Blessings (SYB) program, growing donations by 233% to support those who cannot afford dues. He was a member of the Committee that raised $2.9 million for the Capital Campaign to enable Har Shalom to renovate and remodel the older section of its building. And Jack chaired the recent Dedication Day program to recognize donors and doers to the Capital Campaign and the ensuing construction.

Mark the date and plan to join us as we honor Jack at this wonderful event on May 21. Over 300 people attended last year’s dinner. Go to www.seaboardfjmc.org, to obtain reservations and or to place a tribute in the electronic journal being prepared for the event.
