Tallitot/Mahzorim (HHD PRAYER BOOKS)

Congregants are encouraged to bring their own tallitot. Har Shalom has a limited supply of tallitot.

Har Shalom uses Mahzor Lev Shalem, published by the Rabbinical Assembly. Congregants should bring their own mahzor; the synagogue has a limited number of guest copies. If you have not already purchased a mahzor, or you wish to purchase additional copies of Mahzor Lev Shalem, please use the order form on page 11 in your High Holy Days Forms Packet.

We are excited that our transitioning to Mahzor Lev Shalem during the 5775 High Holy Days went well. If you still need to order your copies or simple want a few extras, click here for information about this mahzor and how you can purchase your own copies for $54.

Ushers

Our volunteer ushers make the High Holy Days Services safe and comfortable for all. Congregants are encouraged to volunteer as ushers as frequently as they would like. This year, adults with last names beginning with the letters “N” through “Z” are asked to usher for one service. Please indicate the three choices of services you are available for ushering on page 9 in your High Holy Days Forms Packet. If no request is made, a day will be assigned to you

Torah Reader & Shofar Blower Request

We encourage congregants to read a Torah portion during the High Holy Days. Please complete the appropriate box on page 9 in your High Holy Days Forms Packet or contact the Hazzan at hozurbass@harshalom.org or 301-299-7087, ext 1. CDs or mp3s with HHD trope and HHD Torah portions are available. Torah readers  must receive the Hazzan’s approval prior to the High Holy Days

Special Needs

If special accommodations are required, please indicate this on page 9 in your High Holy Days Forms Packet, so we can assist with your needs. A limited number of sound enhancement receivers are available for use in both the Burke Sanctuary and Paul Family Social Hall.

 

Parking

Senior citizens and persons with disabilities may be dropped off at the Burke Sanctuary doors before parking the car. Overflow parking will be available off-site, with shuttle bus service to and from Har Shalom. Parking locations and instructions will be mailed with your tickets.

We are selling a limited number of reserved parking spaces in the Har Shalom parking lot for use throughout the High Holy Days season for $500.00 each.  To purchase a space, please indicate so on page 6 in your High Holy Days Forms Packet.  These spaces will be sold on a first come, first served basis.  Proceeds from parking space sales will go to support programming and operating expenses.  If you prefer, you may purchase raffle tickets on page 12 in your High Holy Days Forms Packet to win one of the reserved parking spaces.

 

The High Holy Day Greeting Program

Family Greetings Line – $36 | Family Greetings Box – $54. 
Family Greetings will be published in the High Holy Day Program Book that is distributed at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Services.

 

Men’s Club Sukkah Kits

Men’s Club Sukkah Kits are available to order. Be the first on your block to perform the mitzvah of building and dwelling in a Sukkah. Your family will enjoy it and you’ll be a hero! Sukkah kits are $249.

 

Book of Remembrance

Information about the Book of Remembrance can be found in the Reference Guide. The cost is $72.00. Your entry should be completed as you would like it to appear in this year’s book or confirm/modify the information from last year’s entry.  

 

High Holy Day Calendar and Service Times

 

Ticket Information

Members of Har Shalom and their unmarried children, age 22 and under as of July 1, 2017, are eligible to receive tickets for the High Holy Days (“HHD”) services. Because of space constraints and security considerations, all attendees must have a HHD ticket.

Family Membership includes HHD seats for two adults and all children age 22 and under.
Individual Membership includes HHD seats for one adult and all children age 22 and under.

Members’ children age 23-30, as of July 1, 2017, can purchase HHD tickets for all services for $100.

If you are not a Har Shalom member but are interested in receiving details on the 5778 High Holy Days, please contact the Har Shalom Office.

 

Visitors to Har Shalom

Members of Har Shalom may purchase additional tickets for guests.

Guests who are members of another synagogue whose membership dues include High Holy Day tickets, or who have already purchased them, may request reciprocal seating by having their Synagogue Office send a letter to Har Shalom by mail, fax (301-299-2247), or as an e-mail attachment to Leslie Albershardt at leslie@harshalom.org.  Please ensure that both the name of the visitor and the Har Shalom host member’s name are included in the letter. Guests who are members of another synagogue whose dues do not include High Holy Days tickets, or who have not purchased tickets elsewhere, may purchase tickets at Har Shalom.

Unaffiliated persons living in the Washington area may purchase tickets for all services for $254, or preferably, they may join Har Shalom and receive full membership privileges. Those living outside the Washington area, tickets are $180.00.

NOTE: Har Shalom members who will be out-of-town during the High Holy Days may request a letter of reciprocity, as well.

 

Service Information

Throughout the High Holy Days, there are four different synagogue services: the Traditional ServiceGan Yom Tov, STAR Yom Tov , and our Teen Service.

 

Traditional Service

The Traditional Service is the main High Holy Day Service.  The Congregation is divided into two sections for the first day of Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur morning.  At all other times, the Congregation is together for the Traditional Service.

The Yizkor Service will be held Yom Kippur morning, following the reading of the Torah and Haftarah.

 

Gan Yom Tov
(PreSCHOOLKindergarten)

Preschoolers and Kindergarteners will have an amazing time with the incomprable Moly Beth Rushfield, a celebrated JDS teacher and camp leader.

 

MISHPACHA "FAMILY" MINYAN
(Families w/ Children Grades K-5)

This brand new story and song-filled service is ideal for families with children in grades K-5. It will be led by our dynamic rabbinic intern, Kayley Romick. 

 

Shofar So Good

(Grades 6-8)

Kids in grades 6-8 are encouraged to join Har Shalom's new Director of Education, Ruth Szykman, for a fun and meaningful High Holy Day prayer and learning experience.

 

Teen Talks

(Grades 9-12)

Interactive and spirited service and discussion just for teens. Join us for a thought-provoking morning, designed especially for you.
