Melissa Schwartz recently joined the Har Shalom family having worked in the Jewish community, both in the DMV and the Philadelphia area for over twenty-five years. Melissa has experience in both formal and informal Jewish education. Prior to moving to the area, Melissa worked for Philadelphia Region BBYO and served as the Senior Regional Director. Melissa also served as the Youth Director and Upper School Coordinator at B’nai Israel Congregation in Rockville, Maryland. While working at B’nai Israel, Melissa wore many hats including Junior Congregation leader, High Holiday Youth Coordinator and Israeli dance teacher in the preschool. Melissa held other positions in the Jewish community including Preschool Director and Hebrew School teacher at Olam Tikvah in Fairfax, Virginia. Most recently, Melissa worked for Israel Outdoors sending college students and young adults on Birthright trips to Israel.

A Philadelphia native, Melissa graduated from Penn State University (We are…) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

Melissa is married to David and can be seen driving up and down I95 from her home in Fredericksburg, Virginia. In her spare time she likes to read, travel, and cheer for the Philadelphia Eagles. She is the proud stepmother to Aaron, Allison, Ashlyn, and Aiden. Their loud, happy home includes her loud dog Nala.
