Shavuot 5783 - Services, Programs & Celebrations!

THURSDAY, MAY 25

7:45PM - 8:45PM (Session #1) and/or 9:15PM - 10:15PM (Session #2) | Shavuot Evening of Learning - Join us for an intimate Shavuot evening program including candle lighting, learning, and cheesecake with the Har Shalom community (Scroll down to register)

At the home of Rabbi Adam Raskin:
God is a Man of War; Adonai Ish Malhama.
That is the claim the Jewish people make after crossing the sea to freedom (Exodus 15). This phrase is now part of our daily prayers. Do we believe God is a warrior? How does this metaphor align with Oseh Shalom, that God is "the Maker of Peace?" We will delve into how this idea of God the warrior has been understood from ancient times to today. Can God help us fight our personal as well as national battles?

At Har Shalom with Rabbi Rachel Simmons:
Hillel vs. Shammai - The Famous Feud. A deep dive into one of Judaism's most delightfully disagreeable dynamics. Rabbis Hillel and Shammai argued about almost everything - what wisdom can we glean from their ancient arguments in our modern lives?

At the home of Hazzan Henrique Ozur Bass:
Hakotel - The Western Wall in poetry and song
(only available Session #2). An evening of poetry reading and conversation about the Western Wall. We will read and discuss poems about the wall, inclusing the song by Gamzu and Seltzer, made popular by Ofra Haza.
